Bongo district is a hilly area made of sandstone. Bizarre stone formations and spectacular views are only a few characteristics of this region that is ideal for hiking, but also for a relaxed day out. For those who like nature, it is surely the most beautiful landscape in Upper East region of Ghana.

Like in all other parts of Ghana, English is generally well understood by people (as official language), in this area specially by people under 50, French often only by people under 30, as the Bongo district chairs a direct border with Burkina Faso.

Bongo offers a hilly climbing area around the Bongo district Upper East region of Ghana.

Bongo and Bongo district is a region with a bizarre and intriguing landscape. It lies 1/2 hour north of Bolgatanga (capital of Upper East region).

Best option to discover the Bongo district is a small motorbike (ask local people for rental options, although there is public transport (question is not if you get there, but when).


Bongo district and as well Bolgatanga is a very safe region and there should not be any problems.
